"I learned Carnatic music under Smt. Shanthi Shriram's guidance for six years (2009-2015). Through Shanthi Aunty's devotion, innovation, and fastidious commitment to her students, I participated in several school productions, including “Garland of Ragas” (2014) and “Shiva-Shakti” (2015), and gave many concerts, including LOTUS (2013), SR Fine Arts (2014), and a full-length solo concert (2015). I also won prizes at OSAAT and Papanasam Sivan competitions, participated and performed at SIFA, SR Fine Arts and the Cleveland Thyagaraja Aradhana, and gave three television performances with Swara Lahari. Through the years with Nadalaya School of Music, I had an overwhelming amount of opportunities to learn a large variety of pieces and sing alongside talented Bay Area accompanying artists. I have the utmost gratitude to Shanthi Aunty and Shriram Uncle for their dedication to teaching this artform."

My name is Vaikundh, and I have been learning from Nadalaya School of Music for almost the past 13 years. I began at age 6, and have been guided to where I am by Guru Smt. Shanthi Shriram. As a long-time student of Nadalaya, I have learned to always aim for perfection in my music, to be disciplined and focused in my practice and efforts, to have utmost respect for my gurus, and to have appreciation for such a great art form. With the guidance and support of Shanthi Aunty, Shriram Uncle, and the Nadalaya School of Music, I have been able to perform Carnatic vocal music at various venues for various causes, such as raising funds for Make-A-Wish and Inclusive World, supporting local temples, and paying homage to legendary composers of the past. My experience at Nadalaya has been great, and as a result I have been gifted with many opportunities to develop as a carnatic vocalist and good citizen.
